Egg Donation

Egg Donation

One of the main issues we encounter in our clinics today is the delay in the age at which many women or couples seek pregnancy. As the years go by, the quality and quantity of eggs begins to decrease, making it more difficult to fall pregnant naturally.

In these cases, IVF treatments using donor eggs help patients to get pregnant.Egg donation is one of the most effective treatments in assisted reproduction and is carried out in strict compliance with legal requirements, which implies, in addition to the age limit for donors, between 18 and 35 years of age, and the gynaecological, hormonal and genetic studies, the anonymity of both the women who donate and the recipients.

What are the steps to follow in the treatment?

  • Preparing the womb: The aim of this process is to prepare the uterus for the embryo or embryos using medication.
  • Embryo transfer: This procedure does not require sedation, it is a painless process in which our gynaecologists transfer the embryo or embryos, using a fine catheter and under ultrasound control, which allows us to see the most appropriate area of the uterus to deposit them.
  • Prognosis: 12 to 14 days after the transfer, it is time to confirm the pregnancy or not. A blood test will guide us on the prognosis of the pregnancy, as well as the possibility of a twin pregnancy.
  • Vitrification: This is the process of freezing the surplus embryos at an ultra-fast speed with cryoprotective substances, going from a culture temperature of 37º to a cryopreservation temperature of -196º, preserving them in liquid nitrogen in our Biobank for as long as desired and keeping the cells intact for later use.

Egg Donation + Phenomatch:

At UR Vistahermosa we use the Fenomatch Platform, an innovative platform with which our team of doctors and embryologists objectively and scientifically select the ideal donor for each patient.

Biobank

A Biobank is defined in the legislation as a non-profit entity that hosts collections of biological samples for diagnosis or research, following rigorous quality controls.

Our Biobanks have a collection of DNA samples from infertile patients that is unique in the country, coming from patients who voluntarily and from different Spanish centres cede their samples for research.

In these Biobanks, another collection of DNA samples from donors is collected in order to access the genetic map of the donors without interfering with their anonymity. Given the low probability of a future disease problem, the conservation of the samples allows us to study the DNA in order to genetically evaluate the newborn, providing greater confidence and peace of mind in everything related to the birth and development of the baby.

This service is free of charge and guarantees access to the recipient’s samples indefinitely. In order to have the sample, all that is needed is an official medical report to be evaluated by our geneticists.

UR Vistahermosa, a different kind of egg donation programme

The UR Vistahermosa egg donation programme has 8 points that make us different:

  • Safety and confidence, as we are located in a hospital environment.
  • We ensure the transfer of embryos, not the number of follicles or oocytes.
  • We do not share donors.
  • We transfer embryos mainly at the blastocyst stage (5th day of culture) for a better embryo selection and better implantation rate.
  • We only freeze surplus embryos with high implantation power.
  • We maintain the total anonymity of both the donor and the recipient.
  • We have donors available quickly, except for rare phenotypes.
  • We are pioneers in having a biobank with a collection of gametes of different phenotypes.

How effective is treatment with donor eggs?

Egg donation is one of the treatments that best meets many people’s desire for motherhood. Its high success rate reaches 95% after two cycles transferring two embryos, with less than 10% of multiple pregnancies.

Moreover, this high rate is independent of the woman’s age, the only requirement is to have a healthy uterus and a good state of health, making it an exceptional option for women who have failed conventional treatments.
