About us: Reproductive Medicine Unit in Spain
The Reproduction Unit started operating in 1983, developed by Dr López Gálvez and Dr Lloret Ferrándiz at the Alicante Gynaecology Centre, as a centre for assisted reproduction, developing a study and treatment programme for sterility, supported by a Sperm Bank for the cryopreservation of male gametes so they can be used in artificial insemination or cryopreserved for medical reasons.
Subsequently and given the spectacular advances in assisted reproduction treatment, the expansion and complexity of embryology laboratories and the new pharmacology used in ovarian follicular development, it was considered that locating the centre in a hospital would benefit both patients and staff alike. It would allow the centre to gain access to better technical facilities to provide solutions to sterility problems in couples and also assure a higher level of safety, taking advantage of all the general areas available in the hospital.
The Clínica Vistahermosa Reproduction Unit in Spain started work on the diagnosis and treatment of sterility in Alicante in 1995.
The Unit is now considered to be one of the most prestigious centres for reproductive medicine in Spain, its location in Clínica Vistahermosa Hospital means it has over 100 beds, central laboratory services, anatomical pathology, radiology, ICU, etc., in addition to a teaching area with auditorium, library and fully equipped offices.
Covering an area of more than 300m2, the Reproduction Unit facilities provide an atmosphere of privacy, calm and safety for its patients.
Currently, the Clínica Vistahermosa Hospital Reproduction Unit in Alicante also has links with the Reproduction Units of Policlínico San Carlos in Denia and Clínica Virgen de la Vega in Murcia.
