Increasingly, more grandparents are handling the expenses of in vitro fertilisation

07/SEP/09

More and more couples are resorting to in vitro fertilisation and other laboratory techniques to conceive their children. But a curious statistic is that many of the grandparents of these future children are taking care of the expenses associated with these treatments.

Most of the couples that opt for in vitro fertilisation are responsible for 100% of the expenses. Due to the current economic times what is happening now is that many grandparents are offering to pay for the treatments to obtain the grandchild they so desire. They are often retired, have savings and their finances are healthier. Because of this they offer to help their children in achieving this desired experience.

If treatment time is extended, having the endorsement of the grandparents is also very important as it allows the couple to relax and focus exclusively on themselves which helps achieve a quicker pregnancy.

Family participation is not only important with a possible economic need.  Our parents, relatives and friends play a vital role by lending their support when the decision is made to undergo in vitro fertilisation. They encourage the couple in various ways that are very beneficial. They help entertain, motivate and distract the couple so that the wait is more pleasant.
